Tanning Routine
Recently, I've tried spray tans and must I say, it has been one of the most annoying experiences I've gone through. First, I tried the Mystic Tan, which is carrot based. Because I did not like the color it was giving off, I did switch to the Versa Pro Spa. It was great for a while... until it started peeling! It was a nightmare! Trying to get it off took multiple days, even after several baths and exfoliating. Because of this, I've decided to stick to my self tanner and with summer coming around the corner, no one wants to be the whitest one on the beach. Below are a few of my favorite self tanners.
- Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Deep Bronze Tanning Mousse (my fav)
- St. Tropez Bronzing Lotion
- L'oreal Sublime Bronze Luminous Bronzer
Valentine's Day Favorites ♡
Naked 3 Palette: the pinks in this palette are awesome! The grays and dark purples work great for a smokey eye that's not too harsh.
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Dewy Smooth (Ivory 115): because dewy is my new favorite obsession (see the post below!)
Mac Lipstick in Brave: for the perfect pink pout.
L'oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in "Amber": sometimes the pinks in the Naked 3 palette don't show up on my eyelids as sparkly as I want it, so a touch of this works great.
Essie Nail Polish in "Penny Talk": when applied, this color shows up as a rose gold. And who isn't obsessed with rose gold?
High Beam Highlight by Benefit: to contribute with the dewy complexion.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Dewy & Smooth
This week I decided to review this foundation because I'm absolutely in love with it! It is new and not currently in stock for a lot of stores yet (found it at Walmart, but it wasn't at Ulta). There is a matte version if you have oily to combination skin. I would not recommend this to girls with oily skin, as it can contribute to it and give you an oily finish versus dewy and silky.
But for girls with normal to dry skin that gets especially dry in the winter, this will be your life saver. It has a very dewy finish that I absolutely love. It is not cake and is a foundation I will continue to use for a while. So far, it is my favorite drug store foundation! It's hydrating for the winter months, but will apply nicely and give me a glowly, light look in the summer as well. Because it is winter, I go with a lighter shade in Ivory (115. Numbers ending in 5 tend to have pink undertones but I do not notice when I apply it to my face.) When using this foundation, I've noticed that I haven't had to use as much moisturizer. It stays on all day, but comes off easily with cleanser/makeup remover. You do not need a lot to apply over your entire face, but if you do add too much, a loose translucent powder works great over it (if it's too dewy for you, Rimmel London's Stay Matte powder tones it down!) Just try not to get it under your eyes! Because it is so dewy, if some loose debris (eyeshadow, bits of mascara, etc.) falls underneath your eye, it tends to smear when you try to remove it. |
Morphe Brushes
I recently purchased the Vegan Brush Set (set 686) from Morphe Brushes and I'm in love! If you haven't heard of them, they are a makeup brush store in California. They also create eyeshadows, contour palettes, blushes, you name it. The brush set I purchased are all synthetic. They contain (from left to right):

Facial Product Update
|
Finally decided to try some Mario Badescu products, recommended by Jaclyn Hill! Though I do not struggle with a lot of acne, I'm always looking to try new products to maintain a clear complexion and glowing skin.
It contains five products: a cleanser, toner, oil free moisturizer, drying mask, and drying cream. You can purchase it at Ulta for $30. It's important to try a product for at least a month before giving an honest review on it. Many people give up on products after a week because some notice they break out more. Though it could be because of the product, the product also may be working by cleaning out your pores. Sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better. I will be back to update you on this product in one month! |
Homecoming Must-Haves!

Beauty Pet Peeves
Eyes:
Eyebrows:
Face::
- Eyeliner directly on the water line. This is a beauty look I have NEVER been a fan of and never will. Very few people can pull it off. If you do attempt it, please don't just wear bottom water line eyeliner and mascara, focus on your eyelids and top eyeliner as well.
- People not blending their eyeshadow!! When you think you've blended enough, blend some more.
Eyebrows:
- I love big thick eyebrows, if they're well tamed! I think they're much prettier than stick lines drawn on your face. I don't like when they're too drawn on (you can have your natural eyebrow hairs and touch them up with color!) and don't look natural. If you do draw on, take a natural shape and the natural color of your hair, don't just go pick a color you like to see on other people. Use what looks good on YOU.
- Over-tweezing is a GIANT pet peeve. Please make them even. And please have eyebrows of some sort.
- Unibrows. Make sure your eyebrows start where your tear ducts are.
Face::
- When foundation and bronzer is a complete different color than your face.
- When your neck is a different color than your face.
- When you apply concealer on your blemishes that may be too light that you can see it through foundation and bronzer.
- Bad blush (it should accentuate your features, not make you look like you have itchy, blotchy skin.)
We're Talkin' Lips!
I have gotten a few questions of what lipstick color I am wearing on the picture to the right. It has become one of my FAVORITE fall lipstick colors!
It is called Warm Me Up by Maybelline. This got me thinking about an obsession that has been trending for months now- Kylie Jenner's lips! Perfect, I know! Everyone has been trying to figure out how her lips have appeared so plump and how we can recreate it. For you ladies not blessed with lips like Angelina Jolie (I feel ya')- this one's for you! Two words. Lip Liner. As my mom told me, it's like "lip contouring." The key is to look for the white ring around your lips and apply the lip liner there versus on your lips. This makes them appear bigger without changing the natural shape of your lips. I like to use a different color lip liner than I do lip stick, however they do have to be within the same color palette. My favorite lip liner is in the shade of "Natural" by NYX. You can purchase this at your local drug store. The cupids bow is one of the most essential places on your face to highlight (if you're not sure where it is, it is the space between your nose and lips.) I recently bought a new highlighter and when I apply it above my lips, it noticeably makes them look bigger. Another tip I picked up to make your lips plump is peppermint oil! Warning- it does make your lips sting a bit. It gives a soft lift of the lips without looking like you were stung by a bee. If I'm in a rush I'll quickly apply some lip liner with peppermint oil. |

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 20: I bought this when I was looking for a foundation to use in Florida with SPF. It has very light coverage but it definitely makes my skin look dewy with a nice glow!
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor Lipstick in "Warm Me Up": Definitely my new go-to lipstick! Maybelliene Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara: Again, I needed a new product for Florida. I love the way the Falsies mascara looks because it gives them the "just finished and they're still wet" look. L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in "Divine Wine": It's almost fall time which means darker, burgundy lips! Hand Sanitizer: It's almost flu season and when traveling, I'm sure to stay sanitized! Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel: I have very sensitive skin so the majority of shaving creams make me breakout. This is not one of those! Not only does it give a nice close shave, but I didn't have the slightest bit of razor burn after.
NYX Lipstick Lip Cream in "Thalia": I've seen this pop up on my Pinterest SO many times so I thought I'd give it a try! I'm not a huge fan of pink lipsticks on me, but I love this one. e.l.f. Essentials Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara: A necessity for keeping my eyebrows how I like them. Benefit Watts Up Highlighter: I'm going to buy the full size of this as soon as I get the chance! It works wonders at giving you dewy highlights. |
Skin Update
I had to do a post involving Noxzema because it has been my LIFESAVER lately for battling breakouts! My skin is pretty clear right now so I thought I'd tell you a few of the habits I've been doing.
- Drink more water! I've been carrying a water bottle around with me almost everywhere I've gone and I'm beginning to see a big difference in my skin. Forcing yourself to drink water definitely pays off in the long run.
- Try not to stress out! I've been stressed out trying to pack for vacation along with normal daily stresses, but taking a few minutes to breathe each day has definitely decreased my stress level.
- Noxzema is a miracle!! I've used this product for several years and it, at times, has been the only thing I used. I use it because I love the effects of the cooling as well as it doesn't leave my skin dry. There are lots of different kinds but I continue to use the original cleansing cream. You can buy it anywhere! Though it does have a very strong mint smell. I use it at least three times a week. Sometimes when I'm lazy, I'll wash off my makeup then apply Noxzema to specific problem areas and rinse it off after twenty minutes.
- Use a concealer that battles breakouts as well as hides them.
- Make sure to wash your hands before touching your face.

TIPS:
- I switch my products up all the time! The ones listed are just the ones I have been trying out lately.
- Some people like to apply foundation before concealer and that is completely fine! Sometimes I like to mix it up too. Sometimes I won't wear any liquid foundation and I'll only put on under-eye concealer then bronzer. Do whatever feels natural for you and makes you comfortable.
- When getting ready, I always do my hair first. The reason behind this is because I don't want my makeup to melt off from the heat from the irons. I always do my hair first also because when I'm in a rush, I like my hair to look pretty and I can quickly apply mascara on my way out the door.
- ALWAYS apply liquids before powders.
- I like to apply my lipstick last so that I won't accidentally smear it while applying eyeliner.

The Boudoir Eyes Shadow Palette by Too Faced!
This is a palette I've had for a long time, but never really got around to using. Having green eyes, I'm very picky about what color eye shadows I use, especially when it comes to smokey eyes! Plus sometimes I'll put on eyeshadows and feel like the color does not show up well on my eyelids (even after primers), but this palette doesn't end up like that! Combined with the Naked 3 Palette, it makes a gorgeous pink and purple smokey eye. It is used in the selfie below! |
Summer to Fall Makeup Transition
It's time to start making that transition from summer to fall and it starts in your makeup bag! Below are a few of the changes I make in the makeup department when the leaves start changing.
BB Creams ➳ Foundation (I usually like more coverage in the winter than I do in the summer. However if you live in a warm and sunny place year long, feel free to continue using a BB cream!)
Tinted Moisturizer ➳ Bronzer (This may be a personal preference, but I switch to more powders in the winter so instead of using a liquid tinted moisturizer like I do in the summer, I use a powder bronzer.)
Shimmery natural or bright lids ➳ Darker, matte, smokey eyes
Pinks, corals, glossy lips ➳ Mattes, burgundry, red, nude. (Though nudes are always in!)
Bright nails ➳ Dark nails (Though French and black are still my favorites in every season)

Keys to Clear Skin
- WASH OFF YOUR MAKEUP before you go to sleep! This is a HUGE one!! I used to not wash my makeup off before sleeping (although it feels so good to rub your eyes without makeup, we've all had those nights where we stay up too late watching Netflix and get too lazy to wash it off.) However once I started washing my face every night, it cleared up instantly. Washing your makeup off (if you wear face makeup) isn't just splashing it with water, you have to use a cleanser or a product to get it deeply out of your pores.
- Wash your makeup brushes/beauty blender at least once every two weeks. I make an effort to wash mine once a week because the products build up over time.
- Invest in a very good cleanser. This is a product I don't mind spending a lot of money on because it goes a long way. You may have to test out a few bad ones first (we've all been there!) but eventually when you find the right one, it makes the world of a difference. The key is being consistent. I recently bought Ole Henriksen Red Tea Foaming Cleanser (around $30 at Sephora or Ulta) and it definitely has cleared my skin. However, I have to make an effort to use it every night rather than skipping a day.
- Invest in any good face products. There's more to healthy skin than just a cleanser. There's serums, moisturizers, toners. I'm not saying you have to invest in these products. To be honest, my skin is better off when it's left untouched. It's easy to find good products without spending a ton of money. Witch Hazel is a product I use on my face as a toner and although it can make it dry, it clears and cleans my skin. A Clarisonic is one of the best investments I've ever made. I'm sure you've heard that it's an amazing product, but it won't guarantee you healthy, perfect, glowy skin. That depends on your consistency and what products you use with it. I know some people whose skin has gotten worse after using a Clarisonic- and they are so expensive!! But once you find the right product and if you're lazy when it comes to washing your face like I am, it can be an amazing investment.
- Know what's wrong with your skin and products. This takes a lot of time. I (luckily!) have never had a huge problem with acne but I have dull, dry skin. Once you know what your problem is, you can look up different products that are specifically treated for your skin type. You could also see a dermatologist. If you're a woman (especially!) your break outs could be related to your hormones. Once you know what type of skin you have, look for products with healthy ingredients. Most cleansers won't be perfect, but make an effort to look for one with no parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
- If you don't wash your hair for a day, sleep with your hair up and away from your face. Grease and products build up and when it gets on your face, it produces acne.
- Wash your pillow cases!! Try to do it every 3 days or once a week. I would purchase a few pillow cases so you can just switch them out. The oils in your hair and on your face build up on your pillow case (ew- I know!) and tend to cause break outs.
- Sometimes lotion moisturizers just don't work. Having dry skin has been my biggest skin battle and the majority of lotion- like moisturizers just make me break out. If you're like me, opt for oils instead. Jojoba oil, coconut oil, there are a TON of different oils out there that give your skin the moisture it needs without making it break out.
- Give yourself a treatment every now and then. Clay face masks or even a face treatment at a spa every once in a while will go a long way.
My Favorite Celebrity Looks for Summer
The picture on the left is featuring Nikki Reed. When I saw this on Pinterest I thought it was the absolute perfect summer look.
My favorite summer makeup consists of a bright lipstick (corals, oranges, pinks) as well as light eye makeup and a bronzy glow. On the right is another summer look I adore featuring Demi Lovato. She has a nude glossy lip and a light pink blush that shines against her golden tone. Her eyes have a light, natural look to them. |
Weekly Pick-Ups
Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser- I looked this up before I bought it and it had AMAZING reviews! I use this brand's collagen serum so I knew their products had great quality. I use it with my Clarisonic every other day and it's definitely making my skin glow.
Covergirl TruBlend FixStick Concealer- I bought the darkest color for contouring.
E.L.F. Studio Flawless Concealer Brush- I use this to apply my new Garnier under eye concealer.
Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller- I got the light to medium color. It is by far the best under eye concealer I've tried, and I have pretty dark under eye circles! It is a liquid but doesn't cake on.
L'Oréal Telescopic Mascara- I watched a makeup tutorial and this girl had incredibly long eyelashes and used this mascara. The wand is pretty thin and I thought I was going to break it trying to stuff it back in it's tube, but it worked wonders!
EcoTools Custom Coverage Buffing Brush- This brush I use last in my makeup routine with my bronzer to give it an airbrushed appearance.
L'Oréal Brow Shaping Duet- I got the blonde color although I have pretty dark eyebrows. I just like to touch up my eyebrows and the dark color in the combo blends well with my natural eyebrows (a pack comes with two. You apply the darkest color first, then the light to blend it out) However, if you're really going to focus on your brows, I'd recommend Anastasia Beverly Hills brand.
Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder by Too Faced- I will never use another bronzer! Not only does this smell delicious, but it has a gorgeous matte finish that most bronzers don't give you. You can buy it only at Ulta or Sephora but it can be pretty pricy. I got the medium to light.
Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation- I bought this color in Naked, although it looked a bit dark for my skin tone. However when I put it on, I thought I could have bought an even darker color. It has medium to light coverage which is perfect for me. I use it with my beauty blender and it gives me a dewy light look.

Summer Skin Care
|
Face:
Summer for me is all about getting refreshed and set for a new school year. I try to use as little makeup and products on my face as I can to give it a break. I use a Mia 2 Clarisonic that you can buy at Sephora (it is very pricy but one of the best investments I've made!!) I've recently taken a break from my normal cleanser and serum (Ole Henriksen Vitamin C Collagen Booster) and have started making my own face washes. One I have found that goes very well with my Clarisonic is coconut oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil. However I only use my Clarisonic 2-4 times a week. When I don't use it, I use clay face masks (watch my Lush Haul!) or put baking soda and honey on my face. It is very important to apply sunscreen to your face as well! This is the one place I'm prone to getting burnt. The products I use on my face have SPF in them, but if yours don't, Neutrogena has some great face sunscreens that have never made me breakout. Body: In the summer, taking care of your skin is especially important because of sun damage. Definitely stock up on aloe vera because sunburns can be VERY damaging to your skin! In the summer, I try to make my skin as dewy and glowing as possible. To make my skin glow, I use the coffee scrub (see below) on my back, arms, and legs. The coconut oil in it is very good in locking in the moisture I need. My skin is usually very dry and coconut oil is a HUGE help with that. When I don't have time for coconut oil to dry, I use Lush's Dream Cream Lotion as a moisturizer. Your diet is also a huge part of skincare. Drink plenty of water and consume lots of vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed to produce collagen, which helps skin structure. Your body needs water to stay hydrated. Check out my Health & Fitness page on tips how to drink more water! How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes
After doing tribal makeup for shoot yesterday (see top left), I definitely was in need of washing my makeup brushes!! If you've ever used cream eyeshadow, you'd know it can be a pain to get out. Below is the DIY recipe I use to wash my makeup brushes.
Add olive oil and dish soap (yes dish soap!) together in a bowl. I used about an even amount of both. It depends on how many brushes you have to wash.
Mix together. Swirl your brushes (one at a time) in the mix then wash out with water. Lay down to dry and repeat with all your brushes.
The dish soap deeply cleans the brushes whereas the olive oil keeps the brushes soft and makes sure they don't lose their original shape.
It's very important to wash your makeup brushes often! I do so at least once a week.

Lush is the HOLY GRAIL for beauty products!! I reviewed a few of my favorites.

Ulta BeauTY Haul
I recently started having an allergic reaction to one of my face products. It happened to be the bronzer I used that was supposed to be "all natural." Although it works for my friends and family members, it did not settle well with my skin. I looked up the ingredients and, of course, some were toxic and on my "beauty ingredients to avoid" list (see below!).
So because of this, I went to Ulta on the search for new face products, and I definitely found some keepers! Even though I just bought them, I will do a follow-up review vlog on these products soon. See below for descriptions!

*I apologize that the picture is a bit blurry! From left to right and top to bottom:
- Pixi Beauty Bronzer & Kabuki in the shade "subtly suntouched": This product was actually bought at Target because I'm not sure if it can be bought at Ulta. None of the ingredients in it are found on my "beauty ingredients to avoid" list and it is one of the few bronzers that are good for your skin that are available at Target. It has great reviews, but can be pricy! I bought it for $18.
- Beauty Blender: This is a product that you will see in almost every beauty tutorial. I bought mine at Ulta for $5 and it is great for blending face products.
- Revlon Photoready Skinlights in the shade "bare light": I'm on the hunt for dewy skin!! It is such a gorgeous summer look and I always envy the celebrities who work it (Jessica Alba, Blake Lively.) Multiple YouTube beauty tutorials have mentioned this product, so I thought I'd test it out!
- Tarte Smooth Operator amazonian clay finishing powder: This product is to keep your makeup all in place
- Tarte amazonian clay airbrush foundation in the shade "light medium beige": This foundation is a powder (which I prefer) and is said to have 12 hours of coverage.
- Tarte colored clay CC primer in the shade "light": This product I tested out in the stores and LOVED IT! As a primer, it is the first you apply to your skin. The purpose of this Tarte product is to reduce redness and that is exactly what my skin needs, and it definitely did the job!!
- Tarte Gifted Mascara: I have unbelievably thick and long natural eyelashes. They've been that way ever since I was little. I curl them with an eyelash curler and no matter what I do, they won't stay curled. I have tried possibly every mascara you could think of, the baby powder trick, warming up my curler with a blowdryer first, everything!! Nothing seems to keep them curled. I'm trying this mascara product because it is one of the few I haven't tried. The Pinterest photos of before and after also had me sold!
- St. Tropez Self Tanner: This is the holy grail of self tanning!! Many celebrities have raved about this product and it lives up to it's name.
Foot Scrub
Everyone has those days when you need a pedicure, but you'd rather sit at home in your pajamas. Well, I finally found a DIY scrub for your feet that will make them feel like you just got out of the salon! I kid you not, when I was done, I told my mom to feel how soft my feet were, and she wanted to use some after! The best part is that it takes less than five minutes!
This scrub is perfect for whenever your feet need exfoliating, or to maintain "summertime ready" feet. Enjoy! XOXO, Jade |
Beauty Ingredients To Avoid

Hello Readers!
I have recently been reading Jessica Alba's book, The Honest Life. If you did not know, she has recently released her own line of products avoiding all the bad ingredients found in so many products now a days. I have decided to go on a bit of a beauty "cleanse" with my products, avoiding all the ingredients that aren't healthy. Looking through my makeup, I found a LOT of ingredients that are supposed to be avoided. The book is a bit pricy but I strongly recommend everyone to buy it! However if you aren't able to, I listed below some ingredients to AVOID (from The Honest Life) and I strongly encourage everyone to go through their products and throw out the ones that aren't beneficial. • Petrochemicals (including mineral oil, petroleum jelly, propylene glycol and paraffin) • Parabens (found in shampoo, shower gels, lotions) • Triclosan & Triclocarban (found in toothpaste and deodorant) • Formaldehyde • Sodium Lauryl (SLS) & "PEG": (found in shampoo and shower gel) • Triethanolamine (TEA) & Diethanolamine (DEA): (found in conditioner, mascara, and concealer) • Phthalates (found in anything with fragrance as well as nail polish) • Mercury (found in mascara) Toluene (found in nail polishes, cuticle treatments, anti age creams, hair dyes) |

Along with apple cider vinegar (see Hair page), another one of my obsessions lately has been coconut oil! As you can see in the post below, it was in the DIY coffee scrub. Since that post, I've gotten many questions about it extra virgin and organic. It is many scrubs, lotions, and masks that my blog will feature.
I have recently been using coconut oil in different ways that I'll share with you, there are countless benefits to this oil. 1. I personally use it as a moisturizer. I have extremely dry skin, so after cleansing my face, I use it as a moisturizer. It dries quickly and does not feel sticky like a lot of oils do. I also use it on my body as soon as I get out of the shower. 2. Gwyneth Paltrow uses it to whiten her teeth! 3. It makes your skin very soft (which is nice- especially on your feet!) 4. Some people consume it because of it's supplementary nutrients 5. It can be used as an eye makeup remover 6. Coconut oil can be an alternative for sunscreen (I do not recommend going out into the sun with only coconut oil- it has a very, very low SPF) 7. It helps your sunburn from peeling (personal experience with this one!) 8. It is a popular ingredient for cooking (and if you love tea like me- you can put it in it!) 9. Prevents aging and stretch marks 10. If put on your lips, it can be used as a natural chapstick 11. You smell good! Who doesn't love smelling like coconuts? 12. Reduces the itch of bug bites (I do vouch for this as well!) 13. It can be put on your cuticles to make them soft and are rumored to help your nail growth. I encourage all of you to go out and buy yourself some coconut oil! :) Feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions, or comments! XOXO, Jade |
Coffee Scrub
Hello Readers!
If you're anything like me, you love making your own beauty products. I love to find "copy cat" recipes of popular products at Lush or any beauty place, and make my own. One product I've seen become popular is the Frank Coffee Scrub. Many celebrities and models use it on a weekly basis, so I decided to make my own. This is a recipe I've tried and it makes my skin so soft and pretty much glow! Because my sister and I love using it, we put it in a mason jar and have it in our shower. All it takes is coffee grounds, olive oil (in my picture I did not have very much!) and coconut oil. The coffee I choose to use is the Starbucks dark espresso roast. Whatever coffee you choose, make sure it is caffeinated. This dark roast coffee makes the mix black, but I've seen other mixtures turn light brown. Put two spoonfuls into a bowl. Next, is extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil is very good for your skin and hair. Add one tablespoon of olive oil to the mixture. Lastly, is the coconut oil. This has been my latest obsession! I will later post all the uses for coconut oil. Not only does it smell delicious, but it makes your skin very soft. Add two spoonfuls to the mixture, and mix! Apply it on your skin in the shower for at least a minute, then wash off. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! XOXO, Jade |
