Winter Hair Tips ❄
Few things frustrate me more than hair does in the winter! It's frizzy, dry, and just doesn't seem to hold as well as it used to.
However, I've finally mastered how to tame a mane in the wintertime.
However, I've finally mastered how to tame a mane in the wintertime.
- It's a good time to get a trim! Your hair may get very dry in the winter so if you have split ends, it won't be pretty.
- Cold air means dry hair, so deep condition or do a hair mask treatment frequently. Oils work great as well as Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle.
- To fight static, rub your hair with a dryer sheet.
- If you want big roots that last all day, tease 'em and add a dry shampoo.
- When it's a bad roots day, throw on a big hat.
- If you want to keep your hair down but don't want the cold air to affect it, throw a scarf on and have your hair underneath.
How To Dye Your Hair And Not Lose It!
Recently I added highlights into my hair (drug store box dye!) and I realized how worried I was that I'd lose hair. I have only box highlighted my hair about four times in my entire life. The first time I did it, I did lose some hair, which is VERY unusual for me. It doesn't matter if it's wet, applied heat to, or brushed, I usually never lose hair. So when I did, you can bet I was freaking out! The second time around, I didn't lose any hair. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any healthy ways to dye your hair. However, there are ways to help not lose as much
It's all about the shower. I usually apply shampoo twice, then conditioner. With the shampoo I focus mainly on my roots. The key is to go VERY slowly and VERY softly. Your hair is the most vulnerable when it's wet (which is why you shouldn't brush your hair in the shower) so when you add dye you have to be very careful rinsing it out. When applying conditioner, I focus mainly on my ends. Again, I do this very slowly, being careful to not pull out more hair.
After my shower, I squeeze all the water out of my hair (very slowly! If you pull your hair too hard it will definitely fall out if you added dye to the roots), then wrap my towel in it.
My best advice to you is to take your time and be more gentle than you usually would be. Good luck!

Fall Hair Tips & Tricks
In the fall and winter, my hair has a mind of its own.
Below are some of my person tips and tricks I've collected to maintain beautiful fall hair! 1) I like to darken my hair in the fall. On the left, you can see that red and dark brown have been added to my blonde hair. Although it was darker while not in the sun, it was a major change for me! If you're looking for a change but don't want to completely change your do, try lowlights! Lowlights are like highlights but with a dark color. This way, you add a variety of color and change without being too drastic. 2) Lock in the moisture! Definitely invest in deep conditioners because the cold weather will make your hair dry. 3) Don't go outside with wet hair. Yes, I know you've all been told this one but it will prevent you from having breakage! 4) Rinse with cold water, this will make your hair shinier! At the end of my shower, I usually turn on cold water and rinse the conditioner out of my hair for one minute. 5) Carry oil on hand to maintain frizz. One of my favorites for my hair is argan oil. I carry it around in my purse and apply a dime size to my palm then smooth through my hair and the frizz is tamed! Warning, do NOT put it on your roots! It may make them look greasy. |
Second Day Curls
In my opinion, there is nothing better than second day curls! The curls you had the day before die down to soft, loose waves. I like my hair best when it has that be achy wave.
So how do I maintain second day curls? I shower one morning and curl my hair that day. The following day before I shower, I throw my hair up into a pony tail, put a shower cap over it, then shower as normal. To maintain these curls, sometime you need to put in product. I do not use hairspray unless it is a special occasion, but I love to put a sea salt spray in (scroll down to see my favorite!) If my roots lose volume, I put a dry shampoo or baking soda on them. |
Summer Hair Tips!
|
Summer can definitely be a hard time on your hair. Whether it's the damage from the heat of the sun, or the chlorine from swimming in pools, summer can bring out the best and worst sides of your hair. Everyone fights with the constant struggle of limp hair, color slowly fading, and many other hair issues in the summer. Below are four tips that I use to keep my hair behaving well in these hot summer days.
1) Use a heat protectant!! I swear by this. I am ALWAYS spraying heat protectant in my hair. Spray it before you use an iron or blowdryer on your hair or if you're about to spend a day in the sun. It will be a lifesaver, I promise you! 2) Invest in some cute hats. Some people complain about their color fading in the summer (the sun can lighten your hair or bleach out your highlights!) so if that's your problem (or if your scalp burns), throw on a cute baseball cap, fedora, or floppy hat before you leave to the beach! This also helps if your roots are just not havin' it. 3) Take a few hours to leave coconut oil in your hair or use a deep conditioner in the shower. The sun and chlorine can leave your hair dry and damaged, so take the extra time to absorb some moisture in your locks. 4) Use baking soda, volumizing shampoos, or a volumizing power in your roots. My hair tends to fall very flat until I learned a few tips and tricks. Your hair does not have to be limp every day in the summer! Use products to boost your roots! (Hint: Add sea salt to your shampoo!!) When all else fails, throw your hair up in a teased ponytail! ;) |
BIG Hair
Big hair like the picture shown on the right is DEFINITELY not something I do often. It takes a lot of time but mainly a lot of heat to your hair. I warn you, it can be very damaging to do your hair big like this. Be sure to use a heat protectant before and to do a hair-strengthing treatment (like coconut oil!) to your hair after.
However, it is something very fun to do for special occasions! I was a lion for Halloween and it made a very great mane! Below are the steps I took to achieve this BIG hair!

Favorite Hair Masks
Hello viewers!
One of the most requested topics on my blog has been hair masks, so I'll share a few of my favorite DIY hair masks with you.
One of the most requested topics on my blog has been hair masks, so I'll share a few of my favorite DIY hair masks with you.
- Coconut oil: Coconut oil is a savior. The majority of oils are good for your skin and hair, but putting coconut oil in it not only hydrates it, but makes it very soft.
- Egg and olive oil: I have tried this mask before and I have to warn you, it has an awful smell. I recommend using apple cider vinegar to rinse it out because even once you wash it out, the smell remains. It works because eggs are full of protein so it nourishes your hair, plus olive oil is very good for your hair as well. It requires one egg and two tablespoons of olive oil.
- Avocado and olive oil: Avocado is also an ingredient that nourishes your hair. Some people add milk to this mask to make it more of a liquid, though I do not. It requires one avocado and a few tablespoons of olive oil.
- Greek yogurt and honey: I have not actually tried this mask, but I've heard it works! I can't stand the smell of greek yogurt and the only way I can tolerate it is in a smoothie, but I always have some in my house. If any of you try it, be sure to let me know how it goes!
Volumizer and Dry Shampoo
Ladies, I have finally found it. This is one of the BEST ingredients I've found that not only boosts your roots and is a great dry shampoo, but it's probably already in your house! The answer? Baking soda! Baking soda, if you didn't already know, is a powder that many replace harsh chemical products with for cleaning and other various purposes. Not only is it in some face masks (when you mix it with honey it makes your skin so soft!), but if you shake a little bit onto your hair (by your roots but not directly on your part,) it gives a HUGE lift. On the picture above, the left side is untouched and the right side has the powder. Baking soda is also used as part of the "no shampoo" program, where some replace their shampoo because of it's chemicals.
So test away, ladies! It works like a charm. |

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar truly is a miracle ingredient. There are so many uses for it, but it's amazing for your hair! You can buy it anywhere. I purchased a huge carton of mine at Target for less than $4.
Be sure to condition your hair with apple cider vinegar 1-2 times a week! If you rinse your hair out with conditioner after, the smell will not remain in your hair. However if you do not condition with your normal conditioner after, the strong smell of vinegar will not stay strong in your hair.
After a bonfire be sure to rinse with this (shampoo, ACV, repeat) then the smell will be gone after one shower! It also leaves your hair incredibly soft, even Jessica Alba recommends it! ;)
If you want to replace shampoo and conditioner because those products are harsh for your hair, there is rumored to be a baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse. Has anyone tried this?

Hair Care Necessities
Hello Readers!
Hair has been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember considering my hair has been long for the past several years. The question I get the most besides “how do you curl it” is how do I keep it so healthy? Here, I’ll share some of my hair care essentials. This however, does not include my shampoo, conditioner, and hair treatments. I will post those later on! All these products I use very frequently and none of them cost more than $20. I like to find the majority of the products I use at Target since I’m there at least once a week, but also at Ulta and Walmart.
(From left to right)
TRESemmé Platinum Strength Heat Protectant:
You can find this at Target for $4-7. I swear by this product and use it every single time I apply heat to my hair! I do it once when my hair is wet before I blow dry (though I usually let my hair air dry.) Then again before I straighten or curl it. It’s a serum that won’t make your hair feel sticky or have the texture of hair spray. Always use a heat protectant before applying heat to your hair or being in the sun for a while! Always, always, always!!
Göt2B Beach Trippin’ Salt-Infusion Waving Spray:
First off, this smells so good! I use this spray before I leave to the beach in the summer or when I don’t feel like doing much with my hair except giving it a slight wave without using heat. You can find it at Ulta, Target, or Walmart for around $5.
Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray:
I was on the hunt for a perfect sea salt spray when I bought this. You can use either the Göt2B Waving Spray, or this. I however, tend to put them both in my hair. The smell is delicious and it does give your hair the texture that’s easy to scrunch and give you the “after beach” hair feel. You can buy this at Target or Walmart for $6.
Bed Head After Party:
You can purchase this at either Walmart or Target for $13. It smells so good and the smell stays in your hair for a few hours. A lot of the products I use have short-smelling effects, but this is not one of them! I use it to tame the frizz after I straighten my hair and it does wonders!
Bumble and Bumble Styling Lotion:
This is a product that can range anywhere between $8-$18 dollars, but I’ve seen it frequently at Target. It’s actually a spray versus a lotion and I use it before applying heat, after applying my normal heat protectant.
Professional Sebastian Potion 9 Wearable Styling Treatment:
This is one of the pricier, hard to find products. I found it, after searching forever, in a small aisle on the bottom shelf of Ulta. But I must say, it is definitely an underrated product. I’m not quite sure on the price, but it isn’t more than $15. It also comes in different sizes, but I chose the smallest to test it out. When my hair is about half dry but still damp, I squeeze a dime-half palm size into my hand then scrunch it into my hair. You could use a diffuser after if you plan on creating very defined waves, but I just let my hair air-dry.
Aussie Hair Insurance Split-End Protector:
This is a quick and easy product that you can find anywhere for $6. Like all Aussie products, it smells like coconuts and is irresistible! I apply it to my split ends after I towel-dry my hair.
So go out and try these products then tell me what you think, I highly recommend them! Comment below with any thoughts or some of your can't-live-without hair products!
